Industrial Magnets

Key Facts and Applications

Industrial magnets are permanent magnets used in technical, manufacturing and assembly environments where material composition, temperature resistance and installation requirements matter alongside size and holding force. Choosing a magnet to suit the specific application is particularly important in this category.

  • Operating temperature is a key consideration in industrial applications. Above the maximum operating temperature, magnetic performance declines, so applications exposed to higher temperatures require a magnet type that remains stable over time. AlNiCo magnets offer excellent temperature resistance, with some designs rated for maximum temperatures of up to 550 °C. Samarium-cobalt magnets are also a good choice where compact size and high temperature resistance are required.

  • Different magnetic materials offer different properties. AlNiCo magnets are structurally stable but consist of a hard, brittle alloy. Ferrite magnets can offer high coercivity, good corrosion resistance and operating temperatures of up to 250 °C, as well as resistance to acidic and alkaline environments. Material selection is therefore just as important as shape and size.

  • Installation method also matters. BIT magnets designed for insertion into tools are manufactured with an h6 fit tolerance and a brass casing. They can be bonded or press-fitted into a prepared recess. This enables precise installation and predictable performance where the magnet forms an active part of the process.

  • When choosing an industrial magnet, always consider operating temperature, environmental conditions, mechanical loads and the mounting method. A well-chosen magnet provides more stable operation, greater operational reliability and dependable long-term performance in industrial environments.
